Classy shoes for people who don't wear leather.
By Kenneth S. Mahru
I wanted a nicer pair of shoes, but I don't wear leather. I found these and can't be happier. They look great and are super comfortable. People who have seen me wearing them get super jealous and talk about how they used to wear Doc's and should get a new pair. They also can't believe they aren't leather. I am amazed at how well they fit me. I never tried them on and they fit great, even with my narrow heel. I walked 30 minutes to work this morning and they didn't hurt my feet at all. I suspect this will not be my last pair of these shoes and after I finish this review I'm going to add the red ones to my wish list!

Quality and Stylish - And Cruelty-Free !
By K. P. Borley
As a vegan, finding a quality, stylish, waterproof shoe has not been easy. Many of the shoes I have tried have not been waterproof and have not lasted very long. So when I came across these I promptly purchased a pair and so far so good. They look just like a standard DM, so much so that I have to inform people that they aren't leather ! The quality seems good and they seem to be waterproof. In fact they seem to be the same quality, make and styling as the standard DM so pretty much like wearing them as you remember but with the added bonus of not being made from the skin of a slaughtered animal. Of course the true test will be the test of time; will they stay waterproof and how long will they last ? If they fail at any time then I will update my review, so if there is no update then you know that they are still performing well (purchased in Sept 2012). I must say, I do have confidence that these will last a good many years. There is a thought within me that I am giving my money to a company that uses animal skins but I can see the positives in this product. The fact that a classic shoe/boot has been made specifically for vegans is something we should celebrate and it shows that veganism is making progress - and well done to Dr Martens for making these. I believe that in a few years time vegan will be as mainstream as vegetarian is today (as vegetarians realise that the only way to be cruelty free is to be vegan) so buying footwear will be easier, with more styles and choice. For today these certainly seem to tick all the boxes of being quality, stylish, waterproof and I would guess suitable for both male and female. My love to all the vegans out there.

very uncomfortable
By Michael Gerard
I bought 5 pairs of Doc Martens when I was in high school in the 90's. I really enjoyed them. They looked good and the rubber sole really helped me on my job as a hotel busboy, banquet and room service water who was always on his feet. They also really clicked with the Grunge aesthetic of the day.Fast Forward 20 years and now I'm a vegan...I really want to like these shoes as much as the leather ones from my youth... First of all I thought.. "man these shoes are never going to break in" I tried everything...even using a blow drying and having them stretched professionally... they just were painful... Finally I broke them in and guess what... they still are very uncomfortable... Particularly since they dig into the back of my ankle above my heel and no amount of wearing seems to keep this from happening....They still look great and I still wear them.. I can't wear them all day though and take them off when I drive because of the pain..
